Soup Sundays

I am so ready for winter. For us Winter has to be a CHEAP winter but a FUN one. And now that my wife and I are cooking together as a team, just like everything else we do together, this has to be the most fun. And what an education I am getting.

Soup Sunday is a crockpot meal that serves lunch and dinner for us - cutting our day food budget in half.

10 cups water (however my wife uses homemade stock for 5 of those cups)
1 lb of mix beans (we prefer the mix over just one type of bean)
1 onion
1-2 cups of mix veggies (carrots, celery, tomatoes, potatoes - we do not eat corn so NO corn)
maybe some meat if we were able to get it at $2.00 a lb or less.
and HERBS... Oh yes many herbs.

Let it cook while we are at Church and then its ready for us for when we get back.

The cost of homemade vs store boughten (sorry using this very word from LHP) is very shocking which for us is important but we also enjoy the bonding of cooking together as Husband and Wife.

Hebrews 13:4-7

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.

Growing Winter Herbs

As we get closer to moving, we are thinking of added extra ways of saving $$ to help us reach our $$ goal for our house in 365 days (however now we are down to 364 days eeek).

My wife is a huge Womens Day and was reading an old magazine (FREE and found at the laundry mat). And says this:

5 Herbs you can grow in the winter are:

*Parlsey
*Oregano
*Chives
*Basil
*Thyme

All of which we are huge fans of. And with Sunday Soups coming (yippee a real $$ saver for us and I love love love Soup Sundays) these will be very much included on helping us save $$ and making our meals even more yummy.

So as we get settled into our new location we'll become growers!!

Enos 1:4

And my soul hungered and I kneeled down before my Maker, and I cried unto him in mighty prayer and supplication for mine own soul; and all the day long did I cry unto him; yea, and when the night came I did still raise my voice high that it reached the heavens.

About

I used to have a silly grown-up job (market research, eek!). But I'm now a reformed character and have a serious job making monsters.

I have an insatiable urge to create and wanted something different for my own kids to play with. One of a kind companions with a bit of a bite.

My monsters are rugged enough to be dragged along the ground, or fed jam or stuffed up noses. Fortunately, they can also handle the washing machine (an annoyance of mine with many toys. 'Surface wash only'?!! Clearly these manufacturers don't have kids).

The Boring But Important Stuff: All my toys carry the CE mark on their labels, a legal requirement for toys sold in the European Union. This means that they are made entirely from fabrics free from harmful chemicals / metals and are robust enough for real kids.

Can Moo Moo

Food Budget is going well. I have to think long term to save extra $$$. And I am a major milk drinker. And space in my home doesn't allow me to buy 5-6 gallons and store for an entire month. So I got to researching different sorts of milk options. And I found the saving grace to my Moo Moo problem
                                                      http://www.wincofoods.com/

Idaho milk $3.49 for a gallon of milk compared to 1 3 lb can
23.25 Quarts = 5.8125 Gallons (5.8125 X's $3.49 ='s 20.28) $13.98 at Walmart but we spent less then that at WinCo around $12.00 - that's a $7-8 savings. Now we will start saving more as well buy the bigger bulk.

I am so not kidding about saving money. I will always continue to do so but for this next year its life or death for us. And so the search goes on about saving anything we can to get into our new home.

Sweetened Condensed Milk Recipe

Equivalent to 14oz can, generic label =$1.99
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar ($0.22)
  • 3 TBSP butter ($0.24)
  • 1 cup nonfat instant dry milk powder ($0.5)
  • dash salt
Briskly whisk the ingredients together and bring to a full boil (start over low heat and gradually increase). Remove from heat and allow to cool before use or storage.

Evaporated Milk Recipe

Equivalent to 12oz can, generic label = $0.84
  • 1 1/3 cups water
  • 1 cup nonfat instant dry milk ($0.59)
Place the ingredients in a jar with a tight fitting lid and shake vigorously.

My digital photographs are just a capture of what I see in the world around me at any given time -whether it's a stunning glimpse of the Colosseo in Rome on a beautiful summer day, a cluttered maze of colored fabrics in an eclectic shop in the lower French Quarter of New Orleans, a daring stare down from a majestic Texas longhorn, or the simple beauty of a single bloom in a garden.

Matthew 19:4-6

"Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh' ? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

10 Wacky Ways That Could Ruin Your Birthday Party

MrsCraftyRVing List of 10 Wacky Ways That Could Ruin Your Birthday Party

#1 Hiring a DRUNK Clown - Not only do you risk the chance of the clown falling and breaking things but "The Clean-Up" Yuck...

INSTEAD

Have the birthday child be the Ringmaster and design your home as a circus tent (outside would be best)

#2
Hiring a 3 legged Horse? Could make the mini cowboys/cowgirls cry

INSTEAD

Catch the Bandit
One of my most popular cowboy party games is “Catch the Bandit”. It is a fun-tastic twist on the ol’ party piñata. The game requires an adult to take the part of “the bandit”. Why an adult? Simply because it triples the fun for children to get to chase after a “grown up”.

To play each guest must get armed with a lasso (hula hoops) or squirt guns. The little cowboys/girls must chase the bandit and try and lasso him with their hoops (or squirt him). When the Bandit is lassoed he must freeze and pay the fine to be released. The fine is candy that the bandit throws out for all the cowboys/girls. The game continues until the bandit runs out of candy.

#3 Ordering the birthday cake the day before - Are you nuts, it will never make it.

INSTEAD

While kiddies are playing a game, have an adult put an entire bowl of cake mix and provide cupcake baking cups and have the children fill their own cups. And bake away. Have colored frosting and sprinkle available for each child to decorate their own treats.

#4 Hot Wheels in the house. Too big and too many. OVER SIZED toys are never a good idea with a group of kids.

INSTEAD

Mini Hotwheel cars - have a poster board for each child with a  racetrack drawn out and let the kids go to town. you'd be amazed how simple and how they are so consumed in their playing that you will catch your breath.

#5 Feeling Old on your Birthday - Never, it should be a day to CELEBRATE

INSTEAD

40+ Go with His/Her favorite childhood character theme. Shock them and truly a birthday never to forget (I am making my wife a crown for her special day coming up)

#6 Order Party Favors and you forgot to count your own children? It happens more then you think

INSTEAD

Purchase your favors from www.etsy.com/shop/MrsCraftyRVing because they make extra rolls along with the order just in case the parent do forget to add their children, if not needed they go into the party pack bin and offered at a discount as their party pack mix (look in the discount section of the store if your want to save even more $$)

#7 Pets biting the guest - OUCH...

INSTEAD

Rent a pet setter, place in a separate room, or send for overnight visit at a family members home. Pets can get excited and such (little kids can irk them if they are not use to multi kiddies around)

#8 A party with no laughter?? Nope it won't be so if you do this

INSTEAD

Assign the kids to come to the party with 2 jokes, the more kids invited the longer the comedy show can last. This works VERY well for adult birthday parties - make them work for their cake.
http://www.jokes4us.com/holidayjokes/birthdayjokes.html

#9 Its My Party And I am Not Crying?? Play some music and you will "Its My Party and I will Cry if I want to....

INSTEAD

Get the jams on, it sets the mood and there is nothing more fun then a full room of singing going on.

#10  I was NOT invited.

INSTEAD

Invite me....

Handmade Laundry Soap by Being Creative

OMG OMG --------> Shocked!! $20 for 9 months of laundry?? I am use to paying $10 for Tide and now this blogger is telling me I can pocket this money.
http://beingcreativetokeepmysanity.blogspot.com/2010/11/homemade-laundry-soap.html#comments

Here is the receipe... Add all together (shave the bars first) - add to a jar and start $$$$$

1 4 lb 12 oz box Borax (2.15 kg or 76 oz) found in the detergent isle

1 4 lb box Arm & Hammer Baking Soda (1.81 kg) found in the cooking isle

1 box Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda 55 oz (3 lb 7 oz) found in the detergent isle

3 bars of Fels-Naptha soap, found in the detergent isle (if you use Zote bars use 2 bars instead, Zote can be found at Home Depot)

2 small containers of Oxy Clean or store brand Oxy Clean (try to get about 3.5 lbs total (1.58 kg)) found in the detergent isle.

(this is optional, I added it into mine because I have pretty messy kids and the cleaner the better)

You should be able to find all of these items at your grocery store.

**Use 1-2 Tablespoons per load. I know that does not seem like enough but this recipe does not have fillers like the store bought detergent so you only need 1-2 Tablespoons.**

This detergent is fairly mild smelling, it is not over powering. If you love a strong scent you may have to add a fabric softener or laundry crystals to each load. You can find laundry crystals in the detergent isle.

Ether 6:2

For it came to pass after the Lord had prepared the stones, which the brother of Jared had carried up into the mount, the brother of Jared came down out of the mount, and he did put forth the stones into the vessels which were prepared, one in each end thereof; and behold, they did give light unto the vessels

Your going to hear a lot about savings from me for the next year - because if God's grace happens, we'll be able to buy a home for us. A dream that is not a dream but a full time job with plenty of over time. The more I talk about it the more motivated I become....

America's Cheapest Family is my new role model.
Cut Your Grocery Bill in Half with America's Cheapest Family is a book we are looking for at the cheap end of any book store and is a goal of our this week - first to see if our local library or any of our friends have it - because FREE can't hurt us but only help us.
Spend less than you earn....

About $10 is too expensive for us so we won't be buying this book - I am so not kidding when I say we are on a TIGHT budget.

You know there are many that would say:
Insurance and workmans comp would cover. I am afraid NOT people. Not even 1/2 is covered. There are car payments, house payments, childcare, bills that we take for granted. An average stay in the hospital is $2000 - $10,000 a day times that, even if the insurance pays a bulk of this, the math still puts this couple in the negative more so because like many of Americans they do NOT HAVE INSURANCE - something that we have in common, my wife has it but I do not. We know this to be true because it wasn't all that long ago, that we ourselves went through hell and back again. There is so much I can say on this topic, but thats not what this article is about. Its about helping and supporting a friend in need. I ask and for some I beg for you to share/pinterest/facebook/twitter and best of all shop this wonderful store. My wife has 6 items picked out for Tuesday purchase (we get paid by etsy once a week as our budget is set to this).
