Dollar by Dollar

OK,

We had seen this on facebook and we are taking this challenge. Money is tight and we are getting ready for our summer "REBUILD our funds because WINTER ate it all up" makeup challenge.

We don't smoke, we don't drink coffee, we don't shop for anything outside of fabrics and foods - so for us the challenge will be tuff. But we are up for doing this. The total saved could purchase a house full of furniture for us when we get our new home or new rental because Lord help us we can not/will not rent from here again (landlord is nice) but the heating prices are not worth the rental - not when we are paying more for heat then the rent itself.

Take the challenge - maybe this could be used for your Christmas fund or that mini vacation you wanted... Or make a donation to a great cause...

Piggy in the Blanket

We don't do the whole present exchange on Christmas. We haven't done that since my wife and I got married. The hustle and bustle just wasn't Christ like for my wife and so I gave it some time to think about it and she's right. I am in no way saying our way is right or wrong for others, just right for us. So we started the tradition of exchanging gifts on New Years - it just seemed more fitting. And we love it.

So with that in mind and the knowledge our propane was very close to running out. We opt for a cool quick meal that was just plain fun:

And we had our Christmas miracle - the propane did not run out until that last 2 minutes of cooking time. So we were able to have piggy in their blankets and enjoy the afternoon.

So we'd like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and hope they had their own Christmas miracle...

Crunching Fabric Purchase for 2014

As the new year comes, its time to refresh the budget sheet. And this picture says it all for our 2014 fabric shopping. I think we need to stop working for fun and make some money for a change...
My color for 2014 is Orange but find the light brown and light orange is the more real price we'll find amount these great finds. Otherwise we GO UP on our prices and we don't want to do that. Barter is going to be a theme we'll be going with this summer too for our local customers.

Mountain Man George is a Webelos Leader

Honored!

This ole guy gets to be a kid again. My church calling is a Webelos Leader. And at first, I was thinking: Me? How? Why? and God just grin and said "Because I love you my Son and I believe in you"

What is a Webelos?
4th and 5th grade boys to prepare to join a Boy Scout troop all within the 20 month requirement. The goal is to get your 20 badges before you move to the big leagues Compass Point Emblem and Metal Compass Points. Finally, Webelos work toward the Arrow of Light.

What do they do?
Work toward earning activity badges. Demonstrate religiosity, and know the basics about Boy Scouts, such as the Outdoor Code.

WEBELOS

Me:
Webelos Den Leader is a registered volunteer BSA position. Every Webelos Den is required to have a registered den leader whose responsibilities are:
  1. Work directly with other den and pack leaders to ensure that the den is an active and successful part of the pack.
  2. Plan, prepare for, and conduct den meetings with the assistant den leader and den chief.
  3. Attend pack leaders' meetings.
  4. Lead the den at pack meetings and activities.
  5. Ensure the transition of Webelos scouts to Boy Scouts
Why am I so honored? As a city boy from Miami, I did not get the chance to join such a thing. And then when my two sons (who are now in their late 20's) wanted nothing to do with the outside world, I thought my only shot was grandchildren. Only to my great joy this came first. I jumped and leaped. I am Mountain Man George and it goes hand in hand with what the Webelos are all about. And I have to say, I am so lucky to have this group of young fine mini men (as my wife says). They are about complete team work, polite, follow the rules and strive with all their might to do their best while wearing a happy smile.

My first day was a joyful one. I got to help and build - which means tools. Yep my wife is nodding her head big time over there. The Webelos each built their own stools. And I must say, I think they've done this before because each one was done with such ease. Proud of each of them!!

As I venture in guiding/teaching/learning from the Webelos, I bare my testimony that this great nation is one that I love, respect and honor and I will always give my best to serving. As I grow in my strength in serving others, I will always give back to all that has been given to me.

Whispering Secrets

The wind is whispering secrets
It's voice is soft and low.
There are white and wintery secrets
In the quiet falling snow.
Hear secrets in the footsteps
Of the people on the street.
And in gay, ribboned packages
Of everyone you meet.
There are merry secrets twinkling
In the eyes of many a child.
Secrets kept by Mum and Dad
When you asked, they only smiled.
Oh, our world is full of secrets
Now steal quietly away.
Till they open up like magic
On a wonderous Christmas Day.

Winter Equals Debt

Frustrated this season to the gill. We've worked so hard to put money aside, live by a strict budget and learned to do without. And here is old man winter, killing us with the high cost of heat.

Our electric bill doubled the first month from living here and we are now spending about $42 - $62 a week on propane gas just to heat up our home for 1-Room. And now with this cold front here we are frozen solid shut with our sliding glass door. And the kicker is - Winter isn't here till Dec 21.

7 gal tank and we go through 2 of these in one week per room - landlord wants us to heat entire RV but we can't afford that so we heat just one room and leave the water dripping through out the home. The furnace will burn one 7 gal tank in 2 days if on low so for sure NO furnace.

So all of our hard work is paying for our heat and we are back to square one with our home savings - not a dime extra is going towards that and there isn't a thing more we can do to cut corners. My wife hasn't even a winter jacket. Crazy folks we are but we still smile because God loves us in good times as well as bad times.

We are grateful to have had the savings to pay for the heat because if not - we would be a in bigger pickle then now. So all we can do is work harder (my wife cries sometimes stating how much harder can we work, but I just hug her and say "trust me honey, you are the stronger of the two of us, you'll make sure we get it done").

We don't go a day without wearing our hats, sweaters, lap blankets and and extra socks on and bake food as much as possible to generate heat in exchange of the standard heater (kind of kill two birds with one stone sort of thing). We are even using rice heat bags to help keep us warm (thanks to Danni for sending my wife one - she uses it all day and night - God Bless you for the wonderful gift)

Always praying for guidance from our great Lord to keep our hearts open to life's lesson - wether they are in our favor or not. And to understand that our hardship is not a hardship as long as we have faith and hope and trust in our Lord. And I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ.
